Babble: to utter meaningless sounds, like a baby, or utter in an incoherent way; to talk foolishly

Nobody likes to listen to a constant stream of blabbing, God included.  I love the verse “Only speak when you can improve the silence.” (1 Opinions 2:29) As I’ve tried to learn how to “pray without ceasing” (1 Thess 5:17), I’ve been wary of allowing constant prayers to turn into meaningless babble, a constant barrage of meaningless sounds and thoughts directed toward God.  This is, after all, God I’m addressing.

Today, Ron Edmonson posted a great article on this very conundrum….

Paul, who wrote much of the New Testament, wrote that we are to “be in constant prayerIn Matthew 6:7-8 Jesus says, “When you pray, don’t babble on and on as people of other religions do.”.. Jesus almost appears to be telling the reader NOT to pray continually.

The verses do not contradict each other.
